Some Good News!

I won’t make you all wait through any more suspense. I heard from the American Society of Magazine Editors on Monday morning and I am thrilled to tell you that I was accepted for their paid intern program for the summer. I feel so honored to have been chosen, as only 28 students were chosen last year out of the 3000 who applied. I have accepted my position and will be sent a list of participating magazines later this week. I am curious to know which magazines are in the program this year! I think I get to rank my choices in order, then all the resumes go to the magazine editors and they figure out who will be working where. I will know which magazine I have been assigned by the end of April.

The program starts on June 6 and ends on August 10. I am lucky enough to be able to live in Manhattan with my auntie, Julie Bain, who is the health editor for Ladies’ Home Journal. I won’t be working with her, as unfortunately, Meredith Corporation is not taking any ASME interns this summer.

Even more than letting you all know the good news, I wanted to thank everyone who helped me through this process from the bottom of my heart. I could not have done this without help. I am honored that so many people were willing to help me achieve this dream. Thank you all for your advice, your unwavering faith, for reading my blog posts, commenting and your thoughtful and heartfelt recommendation letters. Without your encouragement, I’m not sure I even would have applied for this position.

Thank you! Soon, I’ll be writing to you all from New York! Look out for a few new posts about my preparations for this summer.
